"Annie" movie hits theaters this holiday season

 32 years ago on June 18, 1982  a red curly haired little girl with freckles came into our hearts on movie screens and charmed us with her voice. She and her gang of orphan friends stole the show with their songs about growing up in an orphanage and being mistreated by the owner, “Miss Hannigan”. Loved the movie as a little girl of course everyone knows the song, “Tomorrow” but the film also included many other songs that definitely are memorable.  I saw the film the older version as a little girl and loved it enjoying all of the songs. I loved all of the choreography and everything as well about the film, about how loving Annie’s adopted father “Mr. Stacks” would be and he changed her life. I think that’s one thing about this film that resonates with people is the theme. How each orphan found or should have found a home. It entertaining, funny, and of course refreshing to see a tiny little girl and her dog, Sandy go through trials and tribulations in an orphanage. It’s given a huge spin now because the first film was made in 1982 but it was focused on the 1940s and filmed during the War World 2 era. Remember that film scene when Annie meets FDR, (President Franklin Delano Roosevelt)  and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt when they sing, "Tomorrow" all together.  This time the film is taken completely to another level because as we know times change and evolve. Just a few facts the 1982 film of Annie was filmed with child actress, Aileen Quinn as Annie, Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, Ann Reinking, Carol Burnett, and Albert Finney.

Flash forward 32 years later to 2014, the film this time has been modernized, contemporary, more glamorous, diverse, and it takes place in New York City. This time the film has a completely different way of exposing children to the film and Broadway play as well. This time the film stars Oscar winner, the triple threat and comedian, Jamie Foxx (In Living Color, Jamie Foxx Show, Ray, Django, Horrible Bosses 1 and 2), Oscar winner, child actress 11-year-old, Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) , the beautiful multitalented, Cameron Diaz, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale

Akinnuoye Agboye,-Nash,  and David Zayas. The film I love it all ready cause it really reflects and shows how different things are now in our society. How our country and world has evolved. It also has a great musical soundtrack that will be produced by Jay-Z as well with a remake of the classic hit song, “Hard Knock Life” look for it in the film as well.

This has been in the makings for a long time and love that it really reflects where filmmakers, casting directors, and producers are going now.  The film first starred mostly Caucasian child actresses and now to have a minority female in the lead it shows audiences where they are going now in the industry. Actresses can now play any part even if she is of a different racial background. Casting directors have been doing that for the last 20 years or so now. However the character of, Annie has never been played by a girl of a different race.  I love the idea of that.  I cannot wait to see the film and hope that many little girls, children at heart will go out and see this film.  It comes out just in time for the holiday season a week from Christmas.  I hope you all well take your children, if you’re a teacher, babysitter, nanny, you will go take your kids to see this film is definitely a classic.
