“American Dream Story for Millennials hip hop artist Cardi B”

Breaking records with her number one hit single for 2017 "Bodak Yellow"

She’s only 25 years old (she will be 25 this October 11th), and she is one woman you do not want to mess with she has the number one album with the 2017 summer anthem of the year, “Bodak Yellow”. She’s sassy, charismatic, hilarious, creative, and has a certain energy in a room full of people that’s infectious I didn’t realize it until I saw a couple of her interviews and have heard about her she’s become a household name. I actually remember I was working one of my second jobs a couple of years ago and I kept hearing this name I swear I heard this name so much I didn’t realize wow this girl really is a star. Whenever you are in public and people are talking about someone who just so happens to be on television in the media or anywhere else. You know they have made it completely. They have become the term is loosely used but that’s how you know they made it, “Household name” when you have made it and the public completely identifies with who you are as a person.  This woman in a matter of two years has broken records and she’s breaking down doors in the process.
Former “Love and Hip Hop: New York” star, Belcalis “Cardi B” Alamanzar originally from the Bronx, New York  born to a Trinidadian mother and a Dominican father, “Cardi B”  (her moniker comes from the famous rum brand, Bacardi how clever right?) has taken the hip hop world by storm and she just broke a major record as the first woman of Dominican descent to break records. She just topped and broke records after 19 years hip hop, R&B, soul artist, Lauryn Hill broke records for her album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (1998) this is a classic album one of my favorites actually and I am sure many of you remember Lauryn’s break out  number one hit, “Doo Wop (That Thing)” many women have broken that record all in a matter of about 3 months Cardi B has taken the world by storm with her music. She’s currently working on a full project and wants to collaborate with many artists for her up and coming project and album. She has been promoting a lot of press but there is no official date yet. I think within the end of this year or beginning of 2018 we will know when her album is coming out shortly.
So how did this petite star rise from stardom she actually has been rapping longer than we realize, she’s always been interested in the arts and performing. She attended Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Technology a small specialty school located on the college campus of Lehman College in the Bronx, New York.  She attended the school and while she was going to school she also worked a job as well. Around this time Alamanzar wanted to break away from her home life. She began dating and was in a abusive relationship at the time.  She was looking at  away to break out and to escape. Her manager at the store she work suggested if she become an exotic dancer. (I personally do not recommend you accept this suggestion anyone it doesn’t matter they clearly do know the talent you have). She turned to it when she was in her late teens and she was making a decent living and earning income. She eventually told her parents but at the same time she was looking to break into the music industry.  She quit her career as an exotic dancer when she was 23.
Cardi B debuted on Love & Hip Hop’s: New York cast in the spring of 2015 season. I remember because I had so many of my co-workers around me talking about and we would discuss the series and what crazy things they would hear her say or doing on the show. All the while not realizing that this woman was about to become the breakout star of that season.  She did and immediately was discovered by Instagram’s social media platform. She earned a huge following of her self-expression tirades and telling it like it is on social media. She was also discovered at 2015’s New York Fashion Week along with stylist, Patricia Fields.  She was featured in  a few hip hop videos, “Chapi Chapi” by Farruko.  She then collected attention from her show and with her DVD: “I am Cardi B” and has gone on to become the success that we see today. It makes me wonder though is this how we create a brand for ourselves. Do we achieve this by making a way to become something for ourselves as millennials. Is this the way we have to go through some tough situations to get to the common goal. That being said yes definitely but I often wonder do we have to expose ourselves before actually achieving success or why  can’t a female climb her way to the top without the struggle. I applaud her for being a survivor it’s admirable but it does make me wonder will females follow in her footsteps only because of the fame and fortune.  She is a cautionary tale that you do not have to always take that road but if it’s an emergency and you have to fight for yourself. You can take the path in order to establish yourself.
I hope that high school and college age females will they take the path of hard work.  Her story is going to be known as she struggled, she fought her way to the top, and she will be known as the woman who broke away from exotic dancing past to make herself a success and earn a number one hit single and album too.
