The Bronx Bombshell, Jennifer Lopez will accept the Video Music Vanguard Award for 2018
MTV Video Music Awards Live Monday- 8.20.2018
Remember Anything and Everything can happen in one night at this show let's go MTV and Moonman!
I remember when I was a kid coming home everyday after
school I used to watch a lot of music videos growing up MTV, BET, VH-1 these
are networks are household staples to all of us. The children who grew up around
the 1980s-2000s they know about music videos. How a music video in the early
1980s was a way to connect to your audience. People would sit and prepare to
watch the videos with their families. Whether if that was watching Madonna,
Michael Jackson, Prince, Janet Jackson, The Beastie Boys, or any other group,
musician, artist, or director who paved the way during that time to set a
statement, to give someone an opportunity to express their abilities and
themselves. You just knew this was one other way of an a recording artist or
group to get a chance to express their creativity. Other than of course
memorizing lyrics, I studied movements, dance moves, you would get ideas on the
latest trends happening in fashion, pop culture, and so much more all from
watching music videos. Videos are now not just showing an artist singing where
you can see them. They have become these mini intricate films in a way, you get
to see the visual part of a song, you get to see an artist transform himself or
herself from singer, songwriter, into an actress, a dancer, and also see how
they expand their message and brand. In the late 1990s and early 2000s videos
became more magnified, more diverse, and even highly detailed. You can now
transform viewers from a high tech website where your artist is dancing inside
in the internet on your laptop let’s say and then take them into a funky
outside nightclub. This recording artist has exemplified that you can do so
much within a music video it’s no longer about the song, it’s about the
message, the story, and most of all what you want to translate as a full fledge
artist and musician.
I am talking about the 2018 Video Music Award recipient
Jennifer Lynn Lopez. Along with her dancing skills we all know Jennifer evolved into
an actress and came from a film background as well. She used her experience,
her knowledge, her power, and skills. She put it all into her music videos from
the moment she debuted her first single, “If you had my love” from her 1999
debut album, “On the 6” to now 9 albums deep she has proven herself within a
career that expands 30 plus years. The Bronx Bombshell has evolved from Fly
Girl on “In Living Color” and wears a multitude of hats that can make all of us
want to lend her a hand. She has become a businesswoman, a brand, she promotes
many different brands,and also is
one of the judges of “World of Dance” along with running a production company
Nuyorican productions. I heard one of her fans ask her recently when the
announcement was made “Jennifer when do you have time to sleep?” she confirmed
“Yes, I take time from my schedule to sleep because it’s necessary to as well”.
One of the hardest working women confirms that yes she does indeed sleep and
takes time for herself. She enjoys the fruits of labor and enjoys everything.
All while maintaining her humility, grace, her realness, and her poise. I am
very influenced by people who can wear a lot of hats because it shows that
there are no limitations on anything in life at all. You must simply find your
strengths, find your passions, follow what just makes you happy, and of course
make your vision become a reality. She along with many strong powerful women
around the world show us all that you can do it all. Plus you can do it like
that quote from Ginger Rogers says “I did it everything Fred Astaire did but
backwards in heels”. Well if Ginger Rogers did that imagine what this woman can
do and she wears Christian Louboutins heels when she’s dancing on stage. I know
because I have seen her perform live transform from Timberland boots to high
heels rocking the stage with all of her dancers, band, and team. It’s an
amazing show her current “All I have “ tour which is wrapping up soon was
definitely an era don’t want to forget. I am sure there will be many tours to
come. This was a highlight because it shows you just powerful a woman can be.
She’s able to take herself from role to role and does it all while never
missing a single beat. So I have to hand it to this woman who with an
incredible background still continues to amaze all of us around the world. Her
drive is unstoppable and she is hands down a boss and is relentless. So
congratulations to this amazing woman I am so proud and excited. Go Jlo!!!!!
