Things have become too censored, too quiet, where we have to become silenced. That is not fair for recording artists, entertainers, writers, journalists, bloggers, or influencers to express themselves, to create opportunities for themselves, to express their thoughts to create change or a difference. We are supposed to change society. Artists reflect the state of time, we create the picture of time, we freeze time for a moment, and express it. So in 2026 I say don't stay silent, don't say quiet, don't freeze a damn thing, keep on expressing yourself completely because truth will always come out in music, art, television, dance, and all creations.
Janet Jackson is celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Control” debuted on February 4, 1986 which was her third studio album and this was her declaration of independence, her freedom, her moment to say I am in control of my life, my career, my journey as a woman, and I will be responsible for my decisions and choices. Songwriters included Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. This wasn’t just a moment in womanhood she actually was going through a time in her life to transition from girl to woman. In all areas of her livelihood, her annulment from her first husband, James DeBarge, her separation from her father no longer controlling her career decisions, and her father was no longer her manager. I believe a lot of females we as artists go through this transition at some point in our lives. Especially if your family is involved you realize I need more independence. Control was stamped 5x platinum by the RIAA, sold 10 million copies worldwide, a nomination for album of the Year in 1987, and is listed as one of the best definitive albums in 1986. In 2016 10 years ago “Control” was selected for the exhibition at the National Museum of African American history and culture. The album also included 7 hits featured on the Billboard charts, “What have you done for me lately”, “Nasty”, “When I think of you”, “Control”, “Let’s wait awhile”, “Funny how time flies (When you’re having fun”), and “Pleasure Principle”. Many of Janet’s hit songs were sampled, inspired by other R&B artists, and videos were influenced by many artists after she released this album and others to come. This album is still a classic and would stamp her as one of the Queens of Pop/R&B in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.
8. Beyonce's second solo album "B'Day" is released on September 4, 2006 on her 25th birthday featuring numerous number 1 hits with songs, “Irreplaceable”, “Déjà vu” feat her husband, Jay-Z, “Greenlight”, “Ring the Alarm”, “Resentment”, “Upgrade U”, “Freak Um Dress” and “Get Me Bodied”, and “Listen”. Beyonce had about 10 songs on this album that were featured on the Billboard charts in the US and International hits across in Europe and other parts of the world. It was also featured in her movie, “Dreamgirls”. She worked with producers and songwriters, The Dream, Ne-Yo, choreographers, Teyana Taylor was the choreographer for the “Ring the Alarm” video. We saw Beyonce bridge fashion, dance, and we saw her maturity growth as a solo artist. “Freak Um Dress” she created a cultural phenomenon for women and men to pull out that dress to teach your significant other a lesson if you don’t want to lose me. Cause I am going out tonight now what? B’Day catapulted Beyonce into the stratosphere in pop culture. She even took things to the next level with her own girl power movement she added an all female band to her live shows to give women the opportunity to showcase their musicianship skills. Beyonce also celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Survivor along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child this year on April 25, 2026 they will celebrate their Grammy nominated 3rd album, Survivor. 2.
Ne-Yo- “In my own words” was released February 28, 2006 featuring the smash hit “So Sick”, “Sexy Love”, “Stay”, “When You’re Mad”, “Go On Girl”. Ne-Yo I like to call him our generations “Smokey Robinson” when it comes to his songwriting pen. He can write a song that can just hit you right in the gut. Something about his lyrics just touch the female mind, make men think, and I am sure all of the record executives go “He has striked again!”. There’s something about his music that you know he’s going to have multiple hits on his album. Not only that but he has a way of writing songs that connect to all of his fans. He can relate to them whether they are being romantic, partying at an event, and more.

3. 15th Anniversary of FAME (Forgiving All My Enemies)-Chris Brown’s fourth album was released on March 18, 2011 which featured “Deuces” ft Tyga, Kanye West., Look At Me Now” ft Busta Rhymes, “NO BS”, “She Ain’t You”
(featuring an MJ sample of Human Nature), “Yeah 3x”, “Beautiful People”, “Wet the Bed” (ft.Ludacris), “Next to You” ft. Justin Bieber. 18 songs were featured on this album. This I would have to say was one of his best he was nominated and won a Grammy in 2011 for this album. I think this was a defining moment in his career it was a turning point where he found a way to redeem and stay connected to his fans musically and emotionally connected to them. He didn’t miss a mark during this time period. There were party songs, love songs, empowerment, and inspirational songs. This album was the precursor to Fortune his follow up album would feature more smash hit songs for his fifth studio album. I am excited to see what Chris has cooking in the studio for his 12th album cannot wait he’s been dropping singles here and there with “Holy Blindfold”, “Diana”, and “It Depends” but I think the people are wondering when is he coming with something new and amazing like his last masterpiece “11.11” another huge album that people still resonate with during these times. So for Chris he knows how to give his fans what they want of all ages. Congratulations and wishing you many many more anniversaries and albums to come in your career. 20 years and counting.
4. Actress, Songwriter, and Singer, Christina Milian released her third album, “So Amazin’” on April 19, 2006. You all know Christina Milian started out as an actress and appeared in numerous television shows and films, “The Steve Harvey Show”, the movie, “The Wood”, “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, wrote the theme song of Kim Possible, she has written for Young Money, Drake, and others. You all remember one of her break out singles, in the late 1990s “Between Me and You” and “Dip it Low” in 2004 was a huge hit including the remix featuring Fabolous. Christina will celebrate her album of her 3rd album this spring which featured Young Jeezy on her debut track, “Say I”.
Christina has gone on the become a Netflix film queen dominating holiday and romantic comedies, “ Resort to Love”, “Meet Me Next Christmas”, “Falling inn Love”, on Netflix, a co-founder of Beignet Box with close friend Elizabeth Morris. She has gone on to pen and write several songs for other upcoming artists.
5. Nelly Furtado- Loose Nelly’s third album hits the airwaves on June 7, 2006
She made her debut with “I am like a bird “ in 2000 making us want to fly off with her and find an escape far away from our realities then in 2006 she paired up with Timberland and Timberlake and made us want to party, escape, and live it up. Nelly will celebrate her 20th anniversary on June 7th of “Loose” which featured “Say it Right”, “Promiscuous”, and one of my personal theme songs, “Maneater”. She recently was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as she should be with smash dance hits across the board in the music industry. Nelly recently shared she took a sabbatical from performing live due to critics focusing not her music but her physical appearance. I hope she will get back out there because we all know your efforts, your work is what counts the most, your well being is important but truly as an artist. Your work must speak for itself not your appearance. Nelly's an incredible artist and musician I hope the fans and critics will cut her some slack.
6. British Pop star, Lily Allen debuts her first album across the pond on July 13, 2006
I remember when this album came out summer 2006 she was all over the airwaves on television and radio. It was like a huge British explosion I remember it was her, Duffy, and Lady Sovereign they exploded on MTV and pop airwaves. Lily Allen’s music spoke to me during my college days there was something spunky, cheeky, hilarious, but a profound honesty in her lyrics. I love an honest songwriter when they tell you actually what happened to them or a story that seems possible or real. Lily Allen’s song “Smile” and “Littlest Things” one of those songs that had a way of taking you a different place. Smile is upbeat, quirky, makes you feel like walking around your city on a sunny day. “Littlest Things” I love the song she talks about her heartbreak after dating her boyfriend and remembering the things he would say would resonate and would stay with her. Love when you feel the soul of an artist in their lyrics. You can tell they’ve been through some things on this album. They need to unleash the beast so to speak. It’s a very profound thing you feel as the listener. You know when it’s authentic and when someone is laying their heart, their experiences, or even from their inner circles experiences. You feel their lyrics.
7. Cassie- Cassandra Ventura aka “Cassie” her debut album arrives 3 weeks before her 20th birthday August 1, 2006. Cassie debuted summer 2006 with her first single, “Me & U” , “Long Way 2 Go”, and “Official Girl” she was on Bad Boy Records and then later teamed up with Ryan Leslie as a producer and collaborated with him on several singles. Now where is Cassie she has appeared in numerous films, “Honey 3”, “Perfect Match”, “Step Up2”, “Spenser: Confidential”, “Hip Hop Family Christmas”, and “Barbarian”. Cassie has now become an advocate for women as a female who stands against empowering women not only in her lyrics, music, or films. She has given power and a voice to women who have personal struggles in relationships, in the music industry, and more. Cassie I want to commend her personally. “Cassie’s” story not only as a recording artist, a young woman, a millennial, and an influencer. She has opened doors giving a voice to those who may want to stay quiet, private, or who may want to share but do not know how to take that chance. Your bravery speaks volumes.

9. Justin Timberlake celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Futuresex/Lovesounds on September 8, 2026 which featured 7 smash singles on the Billboard charts . This album was highly anticipated after his debut album, “Justified” in November of 2002 he came back with a hell of a sophomore follow up album. You can tell Justin was ready to unleash it all with the next album. I love this album I still do to this day 20 years later I am still playing “My Love” ft. TI, “Until the End of Time”, “Sexyback”, “Lovestoned/I think she knows”, and “What goes around..”, “Losing My Way”, and “Summer Love”. Justin had about 8 hit songs that really could have hit and stayed on the charts all year that year if he wanted them to. September 20, 2006 he sold 684,000 copies (pre-streaming this is right before Apple Music, Amazon, Pandora, and Spotify took over) in 2006 within 2 weeks. Timberlake we know started out in the pop group/boy band, N*SYNC who ruled the airwaves in radio/television for tweens and teens in the late 1990s and early 2000s were all over the place globally. Now in 2026 he has continued with music as a solo artist and has made appearances with his bandmates on awards shows too. This album though is timeless and every song hits different he put his heart, soul, and work in this album.

Fergie’s album catapulted into solo success with “Fergalicious”, “Clumsy”, “All that I got (Make Up Song)”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Glamorous” featuring Ludacris, and “London Bridge”. All of these songs were featured on the Billboard charts and hit number 1 and Fergalicious hit number 2 on the charts staying there for about 27 weeks. The only song that didn’t hit “All that I got (Make Up Song) was not on the charts but it was featured as the theme song for her talk show
was Tyra Banks used this song as her theme song too.

Taylor has done such a phenomenal job reinventing herself, showing her growth as an artist, woman, writer, and dipping her toe into different genres of music.
