The Original Manhattanite is a pop culture blog focused on entertainment, television, music, art, fashion and more, written by pop culture enthusiast, freelance writer, and the queen who wears her New York crown proudly and many hats, Chloe Jewel Riccardo her blog has been published and was created on October 21, 2008 in New York City.
He is a style maven, owner of Billionaire’s Boy Club
clothing line.He’s a mega
producer making hit records for the Neptunes, Robin Thicke, Jay-Z, and so many
different artist. He’s teaming up with many different artist currently looking
to work with artists like, Ariana Grande. He’s also a very style conscious man who can mix and match different
designers together.I am talking
about songwriter, the eclectic genius producer, singer, Pharrell Williams also has had solo projects and successful albums anyone remember the number one hit in 2014 was simply titled "Happy" from his G.I.R.L album.
Recently Pharrell just teamed up with Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel and Adidas to
design a very fabulous shoe and a handbag collection for women as well.I wonder how does a hip hop artist who
has had mega hits crossover into a popular female designer. From a creative
point of view I get it where fashion can meet with music. Music can entice the
senses just as with fashion. You are interested in the look, texture, and how
the clothes can actually make you look.
He
has a great eye for good quality does anyone remember his famous Grammy hat,
the hat that caused such feedback people loved it. He can transform something
simple and then make people go crazy for it too. He has a unique fashion sense
on the red carpet.
So
with his new brand of clothing for Chanel he is focusing on comfort, elegance,
and a great fit for women and men for every day.I love the idea of fashion being combined with a musician because it’s all
connected.You get to see the
creative process of how music can influence clothing, makes you, models, and
everyone feel great too when you have an outfit that can make you feel good. It
just works and you’re able to enjoy yourself. You can paint a picture when you
hear a great song you start visualizing how people can look within their
outfits too. I would love to see Pharrell create an album or maybe some songs for the next Chanel fashion show line that would be pretty unique what these two can probably do. Just look at what they have already achieved with a line of handbags, clothes, and more cannot wait to see what's in store for the future.
Breaking records with her number one hit single for 2017 "Bodak Yellow"
She’s only 25
years old (she will be 25 this October 11th), and she is one woman
you do not want to mess with she has the number one album with the 2017 summer
anthem of the year, “Bodak Yellow”. She’s sassy, charismatic, hilarious,
creative, and has a certain energy in a room full of people that’s infectious I
didn’t realize it until I saw a couple of her interviews and have heard about
her she’s become a household name. I actually remember I was working one of my
second jobs a couple of years ago and I kept hearing this name I swear I heard
this name so much I didn’t realize wow this girl really is a star. Whenever you
are in public and people are talking about someone who just so happens to be on
television in the media or anywhere else. You know they have made it
completely. They have become the term is loosely used but that’s how you know
they made it, “Household name” when you have made it and the public completely
identifies with who you are as a person. This woman in a matter of two years has broken records and she’s
breaking down doors in the process.
Former “Love and
Hip Hop: New York” star, Belcalis “Cardi B” Alamanzar originally from the Bronx,
New Yorkborn to a Trinidadian
mother and a Dominican father, “Cardi B”(her moniker comes from the famous rum brand, Bacardi how clever right?)
has taken the hip hop world by storm and she just broke a major record as the
first woman of Dominican descent to break records. She just topped and broke
records after 19 years hip hop, R&B, soul artist, Lauryn Hill broke records
for her album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (1998) this is a classic album
one of my favorites actually and I am sure many of you remember Lauryn’s break
outnumber one hit, “Doo Wop (That
Thing)” many women have broken that record all in a matter of about 3 months
Cardi B has taken the world by storm with her music. She’s currently working on
a full project and wants to collaborate with many artists for her up and coming
project and album. She has been promoting a lot of press but there is no
official date yet. I think within the end of this year or beginning of 2018 we
will know when her album is coming out shortly.
So how did this
petite star rise from stardom she actually has been rapping longer than we
realize, she’s always been interested in the arts and performing. She attended
Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Technology a small specialty
school located on the college campus of Lehman College in the Bronx, New
York.She attended the school and
while she was going to school she also worked a job as well. Around this time
Alamanzar wanted to break away from her home life. She began dating and was in
a abusive relationship at the time. She was looking ataway to
break out and to escape. Her manager at the store she work suggested if she
become an exotic dancer. (I personally do not recommend you accept this
suggestion anyone it doesn’t matter they clearly do know the talent you have).
She turned to it when she was in her late teens and she was making a decent
living and earning income. She eventually told her parents but at the same time
she was looking to break into the music industry. She quit her career as an exotic dancer when she was 23.
Cardi B debuted on
Love & Hip Hop’s: New York cast in the spring of 2015 season. I remember
because I had so many of my co-workers around me talking about and we would
discuss the series and what crazy things they would hear her say or doing on
the show. All the while not realizing that this woman was about to become the
breakout star of that season.She
did and immediately was discovered by Instagram’s social media platform. She
earned a huge following of her self-expression tirades and telling it like it
is on social media. She was also discovered at 2015’s New York Fashion Week
along with stylist, Patricia Fields. She was featured ina few
hip hop videos, “Chapi Chapi” by Farruko. She then collected attention from her show and with her DVD: “I am Cardi
B” and has gone on to become the success that we see today. It makes me wonder
though is this how we create a brand for ourselves. Do we achieve this by
making a way to become something for ourselves as millennials. Is this the way
we have to go through some tough situations to get to the common goal. That
being said yes definitely but I often wonder do we have to expose ourselves
before actually achieving success or whycan’t a female climb her way to the top without the struggle. I applaud
her for being a survivor it’s admirable but it does make me wonder will females
follow in her footsteps only because of the fame and fortune. She is a cautionary tale that you do not
have to always take that road but if it’s an emergency and you have to fight
for yourself. You can take the path in order to establish yourself.
I hope that high
school and college age females will they take the path of hard work. Her story is going to be known as she
struggled, she fought her way to the top, and she will be known as the woman
who broke away from exotic dancing past to make herself a success and earn a
number one hit single and album too.

I believe in this
digital blogosphere world I have been apart of for close to a decade. We
bloggers and writers should always support each other and assist when it comes
to our goals and what we want to accomplish and achieve with our brand or who
we are too. I have been reading a lot of blogs over the years, and most
recently have been following a lot of people on You Tube with people posting
their daily video channels. I have discovered many people out there who are
insightful, intelligent, funny, and really looking to help people out there
with their advice, support, knowledge, and experiences too. There are no
experts out here but these people have been very informative and they are
assisting people who need an extra boost of support, encouragement, and need to
be taught the ropes of course. I believe when it comes to love experience is
the best teacher actually you have to know it and go through certain situations
to know what love really is too.I
have had a lot of knowledge from people who went through some experiences that
made me look at the situations I experienced myself.
Some of these
people were females and they really allowed me to figure out what I wanted to
do. I had a friend I met actually about 6 years ago her blog, “Confessions of a
Love Addict”, was about relationships, her personal experiences, and some of
you may have heard of her too. Her name is Lindsay Tigar she did a phenomenal
job she’s a couple of years younger than me but I loved reading her blog
especially if I was traveling, home, wherever it was a pick me up especially
when I needed something to encourage me too.The most important advice I believe I remember her
discussing how important it is to most of all love yourself and establishing
yourself as a person. You have to remind yourself that you are worth knowing,
being accepted, and most of all being loved too.My friend stopped her blog after 7 years of publishing and
has gone on to travel the world, she’s has had a very successful career, and
has accomplished so much in the media industry for herself too.
Now one thing I
have been fortunate to have is a male opinion around me too. I have my father,
who lives in Florida, and I also have my stepfather who lives in New York City and
they have been apart of my life of course. I do have men around me in my life who could give me advice. Sometimes it is good to get advice from people outside of your social circle (your girlfriends, family, and close friends)
It’s always great to have a male
perspective because they can tell you what you need to hear if it’s genuine and
sincere that’s always helpful. Now one night I was online taking my “Love
Classes” on You Tube I call them "Love Classes" because there are some people out here who
have been helping me behind the scenes with looking for love and finding a
better relationship shout out to these people: Rainie Howard, Gabe and
Annabella Deku, The Grimwades, The owner, writer, and cast of "The Side Chick " web series with a great message for women who need to wise up, Actress & Author, Meagan Good-Franklin and her husband, Devon
Franklin, and also Pastor Toure and Sarah of Roberts have been able to open my eyes and
a lot of ways. Shout out to all of these people you all have helped me in a lot
of ways with your inspirational ways and advice helped me see some things I
needed to accept and also change too.
Now lastly there’s a handsome man I saw
who caught my attention and I am like “Wow! Where did you come from?” I
was laughing at first and I
thought damn he’s so handsome, he has an old soul, wise beyond his years, and he
really is informative actually. The ladies love him he’s easy on the eyes,
takes care of himself completely, but he happens to also be a “Self-Love
Ambassador”. I didn’t know and realize where has this person been actually. We
need a young millennial who is smart, educated, and has a blunt honesty for
women. He can be vulnerable too and he's not afraid to expose his heart and soul too. He sends some positive messages and that's great for women.
I would love to see him team up with Steve Harvey, Matthew Hussey, Paul
Carrick Brunson, and maybe the millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger. This would
be genius because each of them can coach, work with women and men from all
walks of life from the gas station attendant to the millionaire CEO working on
Wall Street in New York City.
I always wanted to hear a man’s opinions truthfully and it
looks like I found that man (he’s taken) but hey you know ladies we get the
privilege of hearing him speak on You Tube but that’s good enough for me to
know some great men are out there with a good head on their shoulders. Jaxn
he’s 28 years old originally from Yonkers, New York raised by his mother and
his sisters he moved to Mobile, Alabama , attended Tuskegee University and also played college football . You can tell he’s heard and has some great conversations with his family,
which I love because that means he’s heard and seen what ladies go
through.I love how he is blunt,
honest, real, and he’s encouraging women to be intelligent, strong, be
fearless, and accepts all of them from every background too. He’s a poet, writer, and has published 5 books: "A Cheating Man's Heart" (2013), "I still want it" (2015), "I still deserve it", "I've come too far", and "Single Mother's are for Grown Men Only" (2017) just came out September 7, 2017.
I suggest you
ladies to follow along too he gives great advice and a lot of these people I
mentioned will encourage you to having a healthy relationship with yourself,
understanding men and women, their perspectives, and how to make your
connection tighter and better.
Oprah Winfrey is
not slowing down at all she continues to revamp and expand her brand. I don’t
think any of us want her to slow down especially when it comes to something
that her masses of fans can relate to within her empire. Between Oprah’s new
television series since she retired and left her talk show in 2011. Oprah has
starred in films “The Butler”, “Selma”,“Greenleaf” which she is also an executive producer of and it is
featured on her Oprah Winfrey Network. She most recently starred as Henrietta
Lacks in “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”, and she will also star in “A
Wrinkle in Time” which will debut in March 2018. Is there anything this woman
cannot do at all. I believe not Oprah has joined with Weight Watchers lost 40
pounds and has found a way to develop herself into a healthy eating lifestyle
changing her diet and now wants to help her fans and many who struggle with
nutrition and a healthy lifestyle too. Oprah has always been dedicated to giving people and showing
them that living your best life is the way to be. That you need to have a sense
of purpose, a sense to drive yourself, and you should do it while also having a
strong pride, joy, and fulfillment too.
I have always been
a huge fan of healthy eating and having a healthy lifestyle too. It’s expensive
sometimes when you want to strictly eat vegetables and fruits. However you can
do that when you are still on a budget too. Managing your money, coming up with
a quick cheap recipes for my
gluten free, vegan eating people you can still eat healthy on a budget. Quick
recipes that are healthy whether with whole wheat pastas, salads, and fresh
vegetables will help our fellow vegetarians and vegans. Now for my carnivores simply adding
Oprah’s “Oh That’s Good” with your favorite seafood or protein will come in
handy for you. She has fresh soups like butternut squash, cauliflower mashed
potatoes, and vegetables are a great way to kick off your new healthy start.
The Mayor a young kid who is influenced by an aspiring hip
hop musician is discovered to become the mayor in his hometown, Fort Grey,
California he decides to run for mayor to promote his hip hop career to collect
and receive more notoriety. I do wonder could a younger person influence
society and become the mayor. Could someone with a younger point of view would
it be more helpful and beneficial to the community. We have mayors all around
our country and in different states who have a common goal let’s make change,
make a difference, give back to the community to give people what they really
need in their state whether that may be the infrastructure, education,
technology, health, and what would it do to give people a sense of change and
hope to make a difference.
For
example my mayor in New York City is Mayor William “Bill” De Blasio who has
made a major impact on the city. He really represents who we are as people and
the diverse melting pot city. He has a family who is a product of an
interracial relationship, and two biracial kids. This represents our country
during it’s current state and it’s an influence in society. He represents his
political party well and he tries to make an impact on all of our communities
within the five boroughs. Sometimes when we have mayors you can hear a backlash
too sometimes because they may not be as cutting edge, hip, or modern. It does
make you wonder if a younger person would be better in the seat as a mayor.
Often of course pop culture our society’s point of view of
how we conduct ourselves every day, how we should influence and help people. I
wonder would a younger person really make a difference today. Could their voice
give them a chance to do something that can change their community, reach out
to people, give back which is the most important thing too.
If
we had a younger mayor he can still be groomed for learning the role, he
wouldn’t be jaded, he or she wouldn’t be stuck or set in their ways, sticking
to conformity of what people expect of them. As opposed to creating a better
vision for themselves. Fiction often influences our perceptions of the world
and how we need to change and influence things. Maybe a younger male or female
as a mayor would be a phenomenal concept and idea for our community.
One
of the executive producers, had a major influence today with pop culture. Tony
award winner, he starred inthe
2016 Broadway hit, “Hamilton”,written by Lin Manuel Miranda. Daveed Diggs is one of the executive
producers of the show, “The Mayor”. He also stars on television hit and Emmy
award winning show on ABC, “Blackish”. I thought this was a genius idea he
comes from a family who has been influenced by music and obviously we know he
has the acting chops and skills to be apart of this show and offer a lot to the
concept of the show.
The Mayor stars, Lea Michelle, Broadway, television, and
film actress (“Les Miserables”,
“Ragtime”, “Cannonball”, “Louder”). Also the main character, Brandon
Michael Hall (“Cecile on the Phone”, “Search
Party”, ), and Yvette Nicole Brown (“New
Edition” series, “Ugly Truth”, “500 Days of Summer”, “Percy Jackson: Sea of
Monsters)
Now with an all star cast each who have an eclectic
background ABC will have another hit on their hands. The show does make you wonder how a younger kid could
influence change within his community maybe a fresh take can change our point
of view. Could we possibly have younger more diverse mayors in the future. For more information on the television
show visit http://www.abc.com.
It’s Fashion Week in New York City
and this is perfect timing to discuss some new clothing lines. These three
ladies I admire them not only for their talented acting abilities but also
because of how they have established a brand for themselves too. I admire them
demonstrating being classy, sophisticated, well poised, and groomed. They have
done some comedic roles, dramatic roles, and romantic roles as well. They know
how to transform themselves into different characters and they also know how to
attract people on the red carpet too.All three have found a way to expand their brand and message with style
and beauty by developing their own fashion labels partnering up with well known
high fashion store brands to expand themselves with their own collections. Who
are these three ladies?
I
am talking about Gabrielle Union-Wade, Eva Mendes, and Alani Nicole
Vasquez-Anthony we know her by her stage and actress name, “La La Anthony”. These
three women have started beauty, cosmetic, and fashion labels all with the help
of teaming up with many well know designers and stores too. I am going to start
with Gabrielle Monique Union-Wade originally from Nebraska, Omaha, born October
29th, (she’s a Scorpio too lol), first she’s an actress who has starred in many 1990s comedies,
television shows, and film, “10 Things I hate about you”, “Bring it On”,
“Deliver us from Eva”, “She’s All That”, “The Brothers”, “Bad Boys 2”,
“Cadillac Records”, “Top Five”, “Birth of A Nation”, “Think Like A Man 1 and
2”,“Almost Christmas”, and BET’s “Being Mary Jane”, stars as “Pauletta Paul
/”Mary Jane Paul” a successful television news anchor on Satellite News Channel
who has to deal with the juggling family and a television show, her dating
life, and many other personal struggles too within the show. I love it because
it’s relatable, fun, hilarious, real, and I love the fact it has an African
American woman as a lead too. It’s
relatable because as a 30-something now who wanted to be a journalist/producer/writer
I can see what life can or could be like balancing it all too. Gabrielle has
had some incredible roles in her career ones that women of color want to see
themselves as a classy, beautiful, sophisticated, and well established woman. I
didn’t realize how much her image actually impacted me and many other women of
this generation too. How we need to be seen in society and on a day-to-day
basis.
Her
clothing line I love because it is targeting women of all shapes and sizes too.
Women can embrace wearing whatever clothing they feel comfortable in that is
catered to their size. In August of 2017 Gabrielle’s collection debut at New
York Company it has featured colors like mango salsa, fuschia, a royal blue,
exotic print, bandage dress, body con dresses, halter choker tops, flowy tops,
harem pants, and more that are sophisticated, classy, and are easy to dress up
and down. I love this because as a woman who is curvier and is not a size 0 I
love that I can find something that suits my personality, my body type, and I
know I am getting great quality. I love something that can make you look and
feel like a woman. It’s hard
sometimes today where you cannot find clothes that fit you and are tailored to
your sizes sometimes. So when I found out that these ladies were going to be
teaming up with different designers and stores I was excited to see what they
would be coming up with next. Gabrielle’ s clothing sizes run from a size 0 to size 20.
Which means you can get everything at great price from a size extra small to a
double x l. So women of all sizes can wear her clothing. Women have had nothing
but positive reviews on the collection and that’s always a great sign for
business, the designer, and the company too. Gabrielle also has a hair beauty collection called,
“Flawless” that you can find that is perfect for textured and relaxed hair too.
I believe when it comes to fashion
and clothing there are still many issues a lot of women face today. This is
important because recently I had a personal experience that made me more aware
of how being more curvaceous can affect women when they are shopping and even
models too. I have a lot of moments when you are aware of the pressure you feel
in society about your body image and shape. I applied for a job recently in
July for a part-time position. They needed a model for the job and I wanted to
take this position on because people told me ‘Why don’t you model” earn some
more income. Plus having a grandmother who did some modeling in her twenties
and thirties too it was always a great idea for me too.
I considered it I thought what the hell.
Little did I know that reality hit me again when I realized that unfortunately
you really have to be what these people are looking for too. I applied for the
job it was under Elie Tahari and they requested a woman who was between 5’6-5’8”
she had to have a curvy fit body type, now what I didn’t know until they re
edited the job post adding a size 6 come on ladies
have an open mind next time. They wanted someone with a size 6 pant size. They
called me back and liked my photo but didn’t consider me because I wear a size
10 and can squeeze into a size 8 dress too. I thought okay that’s fair I am not
what they want. I felt a bit upset but thought you know what maybe I am not
supposed to be the right person for that job. However it has made me even more
aware of the fact how models feel when they are trying out for auditions or
need to try on clothing too.
How you feel a
pressure to be thinner, more waif- like, instead of embracing their curves. So
when I saw these clothing lines it just made me excited they are going to have
women from all different shapes and sizes jumping up to buy their
clothing.This is a dream come
true where we don’t have to be drastic we can still have some meat on our bones
or “junk in the trunk”. We should always be able to feel like I am an original I don't have to be like the woman in front of me or sitting next to me. I can be different, embrace the skin I am in, and I love who I have become too.
The next two
ladies I salute and applaud these two for them because they also define that it’s okay to be
curvy and know the struggle is real sometimes. Eva Mendes (starred in “Out of
Time”, “Hitch”, “ Cuban-American born actress from Miami, Florida born March 5th,
is a gorgeous actress, model, businesswoman, and mom of two girls Esmeralda and Amada . Eva teamed
up with New York & Company to develop her brand of clothing. She also
became the creative director of CIRCA Beauty products currently sold at
Walgreens and online. Her clothing definitely reflects the woman’s Latin
American roots, her glamorous and sophisticated side. I love the clothes
because it’s something you can wear to work, on a date, to a party, or wherever
you may want to be. It has pastels lavenders, dark evergreens, then peaches,
corals, and bright colors so you can dress up her clothes and dress it down
too. Love these looks because the prices, quality are amazing, and every
customer who has purchased online or in the store gave her 5 stars all the way.
The last person is
Alani Nicole Vasquez-Anthony from Brooklyn, New York she was born June 29th
you know her as Total Request Live “vee-jay” host, actress, producer, business woman, and author, to
her two books, “The Power Playbook” and “The Love Playbook”, she’s been
featured on hit television series, “Power” on Starz, and has a cosmetic line,
“Motives”, and now two clothing lines, “Fifth & Mercer” and now Lord &
Taylor’s collection, “La La Anthony Collection” under Levis. She teamed up and
reached out to Tommy Hilfiger and was immediately connected to get her clothing
line up and running. She wanted something that would appeal to women of all
sizes, shapes, and love a great pair of jeans. I have talked about La La on my
blog previously when she debuted her first book and her hit show, “La La’s Full
Court” she made a name for herself. I always love when people can have a spot
and just boom they blow up doing something you never expected to see them doing
at all.She earned the whole Lord
& Taylor department store window display on Fifth Avenue which is pretty amazing as someone
who worked there and saw the ins and outs of what happens behind the scenes. I am telling you this
is a huge and big deal when you make it on Fifth Avenue. It’s a big deal because so many
tourists, customers come down to shop and window shop at the department store.
So it’s pretty amazing to see how people can see the girl on MTV, VH-1 host has
blown up and made it on Fifth Avenue too. La La’s bomber jackets, jeans
everything runs on a size 0 to a size 24 I did my homework and saw some of the
jeans myself in person too. So when she says she has your size I can vouch for
that yes she has your size. So make sure you stop by Lord & Taylor
department stores.
I can’t talk about shoes on my blog without mentioning something about the ladies too.
You know her best from HBO’s
television series, “Sex and the City” playing the bubbly, effervescent, chic,
tough fashionista, and columnist, “Carrie Bradshaw”, and starring on HBO’s
television show, “Divorce”. Did you also know that she has an impeccable,
stylish, and beautiful shoe line titled (“SJP”) who is this accomplished woman
and shoe aficionado it is Sarah Jessica Parker. Producer, theater, film,
actress and now fashion designer she has added to her resume too. Her new store
is located outside of Maryland in Oxon Hill at the MGM Grand Hotel &
Casino, venue, and concert hall.
Her clothing and shoe line it’s
whimsical, sophisticated, flirty, and fun. From ballet flats, evening shoes,
sandals, and stilettos are all within her shoe collection. They are appealing to all women of all
ages and backgrounds. She has a
way of making you to sashay down the street like it’s a catwalk. She is
incredibly talented with her shoe game. I suggest you all go see her stores and
check out the site too.
Her style is just as bubbly, effervescent, sophisticated,
tailored just as she is too.I
watched a few interviews with her and she’s one of the most down to earth
people. Welcoming, inviting, and really a great linguist too SJP has a way with
words I have loved too. Something about people who are wordsmiths and who have
great style it’s a perfect combination. When it comes to fashion we have to
know exactly what we are going to be talking about too. Especially clothes you
have to learn textures, colors, neutrals, sizes, and what your own body shape
and what works for you too. Working in retail has definitely taught me a lot
about that as well. SJP’s style you can see it reflected in how each shoe is
designed intricately to show that you are receiving five star quality.
